Leave my phone at home? Are you nuts?!

I was at home one lazy weekend afternoon, when the need arose to head outside. I couldn’t tell you exactly why – it’s a mundane detail, long since forgotten. But there is one thing I remember crystal clear: Even though I was content to skip putting on my shoes, I simply could not step outside without bringing my phone.

What if someone calls? What if someone texts? There could be a major family emergency requiring urgent attention, and I would get the message two whole minutes after it got sent – the horror! My wife might shoot me a text from the grocery store, wondering if we have enough mayonnaise – what would she do if I didn’t immediately respond? She might come home with three new containers when we already have two in the pantry – nobody should be sitting on that much mayo!
